Lives in Paris and Lusignan) Holder of a Master of Fine Arts from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam and a Master’s degree in Art History from Sorbonne Université in Paris, she is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD in Research and Creation within the Radian program at the École supérieure d’art et médias de Caen (ésam) and the University of Caen. She has worked in contemporary art centres in the Paris region—Emba Manet in Gennevilliers and La Galerie in Noisy-le-Sec—as well as at the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC). Since 2016, she has taught performance and writing at the École Européenne Supérieure de l’Image in Poitiers (EESI). Her artistic practice is interdisciplinary, combining writing, singing, music, edible materials and installation. It unfolds through various forms of collaboration and sharing,&nbsp;with both other artists and&nbsp;audiences. The circulation of ecological knowledge and its sensory, site-specific transmission lie at the core of her work. In 2019, she trained in medicinal-plant gardening at the Potager du Roi, at the École nationale supérieure du paysage in Versailles, and completed Christophe de Hody’s Le Chemin de la Nature wild-foraging course. For approximately twenty years, she has undertaken numerous collective projects. A member of Glassbox in 2002, she established Galerie Extérieure in 2005, an artistic-intervention project in public space in Paris and the United States. In 2011, together with artists David Bernstein and Jurgis Paskevicius, she founded the trio Jugedamos, with which she developed numerous performances in Amsterdam (De Appel), New York (SculptureCenter) and Rome (Nomas Foundation). After returning to Paris in 2014, she co-founded Black Garlic with chef Virginie Galan and the graphic designers of Commune: an art-and-gastronomy workshop organizing dinners in brasseries and art venues. Since 2017, she has developed individual projects incorporating collaborative invitations, shown at CAC Brétigny, Bétonsalon in Paris, gb agency in Paris, the Goethe-Institut in Nancy, Kyoto Art Center, Galerie Jocelyn Wolff in Paris, and the Grande Galerie at ésam in Caen. Since 2019, she has been conducting research into bitterness, taste, and feeling, which she understands as registers through which the persistence of colonialism and resistance to coloniality can be expressed. This research forms the basis of her practice-based PhD and has also generated several works, most recently presented in her 2026 solo exhibition, Fago, at Le Shed, Centre d’art contemporain de Normandie. Elle mène depuis 2019 une recherche sur l’amertume, le goût et le sentiment qui, selon elle, traduisent la persistance du colonialisme et la résistance à la colonialité. Je repense aux amers, ces repères de navigation qui jalonnent la côté bretonne, mot qui n'a rien à voir avec l'adjectif amer ni avec le nom mer mais qui vient s'ajouter à l'écheveau des images et des correspondances suscitées par tes œuvres. Les amers guident les navigateur*ices, empêchent les navires de se briser sur les récifs, ils orientent le regard à la frontière entre terre et mer et préservent les corps. J'ai tant aimé dans ton film ces images où l'on voit le corps de ton frère Olivier et celui d’, l'ami d’Élie, regarder la mer en silence assis sur des rochers. Le premier est à Nice, le second à Ouessant, sur le littoral desquelles pousse le maceron, cette petite plante que tu as incrustée dans le mur et qui découpe sa silhouette en bas à droite de la projection. Dans la bande-son du film on entend le son de la darbouka d'Olivier et du dobro d’Élie dont joue John, avec qui tu as eu de longues conversations musicales dont le film ne dit rien. Relier : le corps des frères et des ami*es, les histoires charriées par la mer, le son des instruments qui fait vibrer l'écho de déplacements choisis ou forcés, nos transformations et nos attachements. On entend ta voix qui s'interroge : « À quel moment on ressent un autre paysage ? À quel moment la forme de notre main ressemble aux cailloux qu'on trouve par terre ? À quel moment l'iode qu'on respire transforme nos idées ? Sur une invitation du CAC Brétigny, j'ai imaginé une boisson qui traduirait une situation en goût et serait capable de transmettre des savoirs reliés aux contextes économiques et botaniques dans lequel est implanté le centre d’art. Pour cela, j'ai cueilli durant deux années différents végétaux provenant de plusieurs territoires reliés entre eux par la saveur amère, caractéristique de nombreuses plantes incultes franciliennes et de plantes exotiques américaines. Amères est un condensé buvable de ces différentes identités paysagères et politiques. Derrière l'alignement des platanes et des ormes, sous les rues et les bâtiments éclatants de blancheur, Géraldine Longueville cherche l'ombre des corps et des plantes « indigènes », effacé·es par la puissance coloniale. Elle s'interroge aussi sur le rôle de ses ancêtres espagnol·es, émigré·es en Algérie à la fin du 19e siècle pour fuir la pauvreté. Naturalisé·es français·es dans le cadre d'une politique d'assimilation et d'européanisation menée par la France dans sa colonie, i·els ont sans doute participé, en tant qu’ouvriers, aux travaux d’aménagement du territoire algérien. L'installation est le fruit d'une performance réalisée pendant le vernissage, lors de laquelle Géraldine Longueville est venue recouvrir ces images de traits d'aquarelle, soulignant ainsi la violence sous-jacente d'un paysage « défiguré ». La fragilité du dispositif (bambous en équilibre, feuilles de papier ployant sous leur propre poids) évoque l’instabilité des constructions mémorielles, tout en suggérant d’autres compositions et narrations possibles.---Bamboo stems leaning against the walls support reproductions of postcards from the 1900–1920 period celebrating major French development works in Algeria. Behind the rows of plane trees and elms, beneath the dazzlingly white streets and buildings, Géraldine Longueville seeks out the shadows of “indigenous” bodies and plants, erased by colonial power. She also reflects on the role of her Spanish ancestors, who emigrated to Algeria at the end of the nineteenth century to escape poverty. Naturalized as French citizens under a policy of assimilation and Europeanisation implemented by France in its colony, they likely worked as laborers&nbsp;in projects reshaping&nbsp;Algerian territory. The installation results from a performance&nbsp;during the opening, in which Géraldine Longueville covered these images with watercolor marks,&nbsp;foregrounding the underlying violence of a “disfigured” landscape. Pour Fago, l’artiste a imaginé une boisson d’accueil, un préliminaire à l’entrée dans l’exposition. Le mot « sharab » signifie boisson en arabe, langue qui n’a jamais été transmise à l’artiste. Il est proche du mot anglais « shrub » (arbrisseau), qui désigne une boisson acidulée à base de vinaigre de fruits dérivée des cordiaux médicinaux, très populaire dans l’Amérique coloniale des 16e-18e siècles. Aujourd’hui, les shrubs sont servis comme apéritif, leur goût vinaigré (et ici, amer) préparant le palais aux expériences gustatives à venir. La boisson (non-alcoolisée)* se déguste dans des céramiques rugueuses évoquant des coquillages ou des pierres, conçues par la céramiste Nina Safaïnia pour épouser le creux de la main. Pour Géraldine Longueville, elle fonctionne comme un seuil et invite à se mettre dans un certain état d’attention, à saliver avant d’entrer dans l’exposition. Une lampe en laiton légèrement bancale, figurant une tige de bambou, accueille également les visiteur·euses. Rapportée d’Oran par la grand‑mère de Géraldine Longueville en 1962, elle a depuis erré dans les greniers familiaux avant d’être restaurée par l’artiste pour l’exposition. * Ingrédients : vinaigre de pommes, pommes, fruits rouges, rhubarbe, quinquina, achillée millefeuille, sucre.---Drinks are an essential element of Géraldine Longueville’s artistic practice. For Fago, the artist conceived a welcome drink—a prelude to entering the exhibition. The word sharab means “drink” in Arabic, a language that was never passed on to the artist. It is close to the English word shrub, which refers to a tangy, fruit-vinegar-based drink derived from medicinal cordials and widely popular in colonial America between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Today, shrubs are served as aperitifs, their vinegary—and here, bitter—taste preparing the palate for the gustatory experiences to come. The non-alcoholic drink* is served in rough-textured ceramic vessels evoking shells or stones, designed by ceramicist Nina Safaïnia to fit the hollow of the hand. For Géraldine Longueville, it functions as a threshold, inviting visitors into a particular state of attentiveness—to salivate before entering the exhibition. A slightly wobbly brass lamp, shaped like a bamboo stalk, also welcomes visitors. Des groupes d’amateur·ices et les élèves du collège Alain de Maromme (avec leur enseignante Séverine Graf) ont arpenté les rives du Cailly, un affluent de la Seine qui s’écoule non loin du Shed et témoigne du passé ouvrier de la ville de Maromme. Achillée millefeuille, coquelicot, rose, pissenlit, marguerite, pâquerette, sureau, gaillet gratteron, ortie, lamier, trèfle, cerfeuil des bois, plantain lancéolé, sauge, mauve sylvestre, glycine… Les plantes récoltées ont été séchées puis disposées sur des carrés d’organza pour composer des tableaux végétaux. Les tiges de bambou qui structurent le séchoir ont été nouées entre elles selon une technique observée par l’artiste lors d’un récent séjour au Japon. À la fois sculpture et outil, dispositif de vision et de conservation, le séchoir s’élève et s’abaisse dans l’espace au rythme d’un treuil mécanique. À la fin de l’exposition, l’artiste fera don des plantes séchées au Shed afin que l’équipe puisse à son tour confectionner des boissons d’accueil à l’avenir. —— A monumental drying rack houses plants gathered during foraging walks led or accompanied by Géraldine Longueville, Alioun Abderrahmane, and Morane Remaud before and throughout the exhibition. Groups of enthusiasts and pupils from Alain secondary school in Maromme, together with their teacher Séverine Graf, walked along the banks of the Cailly, a tributary of the Seine that flows near the Shed and bears witness to the industrial history of the town of Maromme. Yarrow, poppy, rose, dandelion, oxeye daisy, common daisy, elder, cleavers, nettle, dead-nettle, clover, cow parsley, ribwort plantain, sage, common mallow, wisteria… The collected plants were dried and then arranged on squares of organza to form vegetal compositions. The bamboo poles that structure the drying rack were tied together using a technique the artist observed during a recent stay in Japan. At once a sculpture and a tool, a device for viewing and preservation, the drying rack rises and descends through the space by means of a mechanical winch. et les usages des plantes entre différents espaces marqués par l’histoire et l’idéologie coloniales. Parmi elles, le quinquina, que les Français·es tentèrent sans succès d’acclimater en Algérie après l’avoir importé du «Nouveau Monde ». L’artiste a retrouvé la trace de cette plante amère aux propriétés médicinales au Jardin des Plantes de Rouen, où ses fleurs furent immortalisée en 1883 pour un dictionnaire botanique illustré. Quelques années plus tard, les ancêtres espagnol·es de Géraldine Longueville, émigré·es en Algérie pour fuir la pauvreté, sont naturalisé·es français·es dans le cadre d’une politique d’assimilation et d’européanisation menée par la France dans sa colonie. Les émigré·es espagnol·es sont notamment employé·es aux travaux de défrichement et de reboisement du territoire algérien, où l’alignement des platanes et des ormes efface et recouvre la vie « indigène », celle des plantes comme des humain·es. En 1962, la mère de Géraldine, alors âgée de 9 ans, quitte l’Algérie via l’Espagne. La famille emménage dans le Sud de la France comme un million d’autres « pieds-noirs », tandis que celles des Harkis (combattants musulmans de l’armée française) sont parquées dans des camps militaires. L’arrière-goût amer des plantes thérapeutiques matérialise donc aussi pour l’artiste le sentiment associé à ces histoires enchevêtrées de déracinement, d’exploitation et de perte, qui catégorisent et différencient les vivant·es à leur corps défendant. Là bas tu grandis bien, tu grandis plus qu’ici Tu ne pousses pas au-delà de 1400 mètres d’altitude, Tu vis dans les basses montagnes, au bord des rivières, de l’océan Tu résistes bien au vent Tu pousses assez droit nous, les humains, on adore les arbres droits. Comme ça, on peut réaliser de belles planches droites de toi. J’ai eu du mal à trouver ton nom, celui des peuples racines. Ça, c’est à cause de la botanique. C’est à cause des Grandes Découvertes botaniques. les Grandes Découvertes botaniques des Européens, des Empires les empires découvrent, les empires font de grandes découvertes Découvertes ça veut dire coloniser la terre, capitaliser sur la terre pour la science, pour l’industrie Les empires colonisent l’Amérique, exploitent les végétaux et les acclimatent partout dans le monde D’où le mot Grandes, Grandes Découvertes. Grandes découvertes d’une lumière, nouvelle, inédite, parce que ça vient de l’empire c’est nouveau, c’est inédit, grandes découvertes des explorateurs, grandes découvertes des botanistes grande découverte qui occultent celles déjà là, celleux qui étaient déjà là, celleux qui savaient déjà qui tu étais. Ce qui m’étonne dans la botanique, c’est la manière de nommer les végétaux. il s’agit toujours d’apposer son propre nom de famille à la plante. Une manière de devenir le géniteur, le créateur de la plante. celui qui l’a découvert c’est celui qui l’a créé. Tu n’as pas de nom, ni d’existence tant qu’un homme blanc ne t’a pas nommé en son nom. Tu existes car il te nomme. Tu n’existes pas en dehors de ce nom qui glorifie ton découvreur. En Europe on te nomme Cyprès de Lawson. Charles Lawson. Voilà. ton nom, ton nom c’est Charles Lawson. C’est un pépiniériste écossais du 19e siècle qui a exporté tes graines pour les faire pousser en Europe. En 1854, il a été le premier à exporter tes graines, et vu que c’est le premier qui l’a fait, ils t’ont appelé comme le premier arrivé, le premier à te faire pousser dans sa pépinière et à te vendre Partir de ton pépin, qu’il mets dans sa poche en Californie et, faire des petits arbres, et, les vendre, par centaines, par milliers. Charles t’attribue le statut d’arbre ornemental. J’ai trouvé plein de termes qui définissent ton usage en Europe. Tu sers de barrière végétale, brise vue naturelle, rideau boisé. Tu es un peu l’arbre des lotissements, des maisons de ville. Tu sers à délimiter les propriétés privés, à délimiter les regards tu dis « halte là c’est chez moi&nbsp;!&nbsp;» mais de manière soft and green friendly puisque tu es un arbre, tu es peace. Aux Etats -Unis, il t’appelle le cèdre d’Orford Orford c’est le nom d’un village situé sur la côte pacifique de l’Oregon. On te charge de cargo en cargo à destination du Japon pendant un siècle, pendant un siècle tu remplis les cales et tu débarques au Japon. Là-bas tu es perçu comme : robuste, fiable, résistant, noble. Les japonais t’utilisent pour de la : charpenterie, artillerie, instruments de musique, temples, cercueils. Les peuples racines de l’Oregon sont les : Coosan, Rogue, Tututni, Haruk. Les haruks cohabitent avec toi dans exactement la même région que toi. Ils t’appellent kúpriip Je ne sais comment les autres peuples t’appelaient. Les langues s’épuisent avec le temps, avec la colonisation, avec la déportation des peuples dans les réserves. Happy Camp est l’une d’entre elles. La tribu haruk est ainsi l’une des plus importante et l’une des plus disséminée sur le territoire de la côte, nord-ouest américaine. Un peu comme toi, stocké à Orford, exporté en Europe, rassemblé en pépinière, puis, disséminé. Les haruks construisent leur hutte à sudation avec ton bois. Parce que il y a ton odeur.&nbsp; Une fois froissées tes feuilles, tu exhales une odeur fraîche d’agrumes, de gingembre.
